Meet Allopsontus tianshanicus

Allopsontus tianshanicus is a tiny, ancient insect. It belongs to a special group called jumping bristletails. These little creatures are part of the Machilidae family and are in the Archaeognatha order.

You can find Allopsontus tianshanicus in the Tianshan Mountains. These mountains are in Central Asia and are very tall and rugged. It’s amazing to think that such small insects can live in such big, tough places!

Jumping bristletails, like Allopsontus tianshanicus, have long, bristle-like parts on their bodies. They can jump far using special tail-like parts. Even though they look a bit like tiny lizards or spiders, they are actually distant cousins of butterflies and beetles.

Scientists love studying these insects. They help us learn how life has survived on Earth for hundreds of millions of years, even when the climate and geography changed a lot. Allopsontus tianshanicus is like a living fossil from an ancient world!
