The American Civil War
The American Civil War was a big and important time in the United States. It happened between the North, called the Union, and the South, called the Confederacy. This was a time when some parts of the country did not agree and needed to solve their problems.
Abraham Lincoln was the president during this time. He wanted to keep the country together and help everyone live fairly. Some Southern states left the United States because they were worried about changes Lincoln might make.
The war started in South Carolina when fighting began at a place called Fort Sumter. Many brave people joined to help their sides. The war lasted for four years and ended when the Union won. This helped end something very unfair called slavery, which meant many people were forced to work without pay. After the war, the country worked to heal and bring everyone back together.
The Civil War also brought new inventions like trains and the electrical telegraph. These changed how people lived and communicated. Today, we remember this time through stories, movies, and visits to special places where battles happened.
The war was a difficult time, but it helped shape the United States into the country it is today. People learn about it to understand how important it is to work together and treat everyone with respect.
