Welcome to Astana
Astana is the capital city of Kazakhstan. It is the second-largest city in the country after Almaty. Astana is special because it has many modern and exciting buildings.
Astana is located on the Ishim River in the north of Kazakhstan. The city was founded in 1830 and has had many names over time, including Aqmoly, Akmolinsk, Tselinograd, and Aqmola. It became Astana in 1998, a name that means "capital" in Kazakh.
Since becoming the capital in 1997, Astana has grown quickly. It is a modern and planned city with unique buildings and landmarks. Some famous places in Astana include the Akorda Residence, the Baiterek tower, the Khan Shatyr Entertainment Center, and the Hazrat Sultan Mosque.
Astana is an important center for culture, education, and business. The city has many schools and universities, such as Nazarbayev University and L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. Visitors can enjoy places like the Astana Opera and the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Astana also has many ways to get around, including buses, taxis, and a bicycle-sharing program called AstanaBike. The city’s main airport is Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport, which has flights to many places inside and outside the country.
Astana is known for its beautiful parks and walking areas, such as Presidential Park and Nurjol Boulevard. The city hosts important events and has many friendly cities around the world.
