Meet the Busy Bees
Bees are wonderful, busy insects you can find all over the world—except in Antarctica! They come in many types, like honey bees, bumblebees, and stingless bees. Some bees live in big families called colonies, while others live alone.
Bees are very important because they help plants grow. They move tiny grains called pollen from one flower to another. This is called pollination. Bees also make sweet honey from flower nectar. They use nectar and pollen to give their babies food and energy.
People love bees and take good care of them by keeping them in special boxes called hives. This is called beekeeping. People have been beekeeping for thousands of years, even in ancient places like Egypt and Greece. Bees have been part of stories and art for a very long time, too!
Bees have special parts that make them different. They have big, round compound eyes to see and three tiny ocelli to sense light. Their antennae help them smell and feel things in the air. Bees can fly because they have wings, and many wear bright colors like yellow or orange.
Some bees live alone, building nests by themselves and caring for their young. Others, like honey bees, live in big groups with queens, workers, and drones. Together, they build nests, collect food, and raise their babies. No matter where they live, bees are always busy helping the world grow!
