The Black Death
The Black Death was a very sad time that happened a long time ago. It started in places far away, like Crimea, and then traveled to Europe between the years 1346 and 1353. It was caused by tiny germs called Yersinia pestis that rode on tiny insects called fleas.
Many people got very sick during this time. It changed how people lived and worked in Europe. Even though it was a very difficult time, it helped people learn new ways to keep each other healthy. For example, the idea of quarantine started then. This is when people stay away from others for a little while to make sure they are not sick.
The Black Death happened during a time called the Late Middle Ages. It was the second big problem after the Great Famine of 1315โ1317. Even though many people passed away, life slowly returned to normal, and towns grew bigger again.
Today, we know much more about germs and how to stop them. Doctors have special medicines to help people who get sick from these germs. The Black Death is remembered as a very important event in history because it changed many things for people in Europe and around the world.
