What is Colomba Pasquale?

Colomba pasquale is a special kind of sweet bread that people eat during Easter in Italy. It is called the “Easter dove” because it is shaped like a bird. This tasty bread is a fun treat that families enjoy together.

How is it Made?

The dough for colomba pasquale is made with flour, eggs, sugar, natural yeast, and butter. It is different from another famous Italian sweet bread called panettone because it has candied peel but no raisins. Before baking, it is often topped with pearl sugar and almonds, and some versions are covered in chocolate.

A Sweet Story

Colomba pasquale was first made in the 1930s by a man named Dino Villani. He worked in Milan for a company called Motta, which was already known for making panettone during Christmas. Villani thought it would be nice to create an Easter version of this sweet bread. The owner of Motta, Angelo Motta, shared the new bread with writers and journalists, and it became very popular.
