The Crown of Castile

The Crown of Castile was an important part of what we now call Spain. It started in the year 1230 when two smaller kingdoms, Castile and León, joined together. This made one bigger and stronger kingdom in the middle of the Iberian Peninsula.

One big moment happened in 1492. That year, a sailor named Christopher Columbus sailed across the ocean and found new lands. These lands became known as the Americas. The Crown of Castile helped support these trips, which changed the world forever.

Over time, the Crown of Castile grew to include many different places. It added parts of modern-day Spain like Castile-León, Castile-La Mancha, and Extremadura. Leaders from Castile also ruled faraway places like the Philippines.

The Crown of Castile is remembered because it helped shape the history of Spain and discover new parts of the world. Many people lived there, and it was a time when maps were being drawn with new lands and cities.
