A Special Day to Remember Princess Diana

Princess Diana, also called the Princess of Wales, was loved by many people all around the world. When she passed away, a very special day was held to honor her. This day was her funeral, and it happened in London on September 6, 1997.

The funeral began at Westminster Abbey, a beautiful and important building in London. Many people watched the funeral on TV. In the United Kingdom, about 32 million people saw it, and all around the world, about 2 to 2.5 billion people watched. It was one of the most-watched TV events ever!

After the ceremony at Westminster Abbey, Princess Diana was taken to her family’s home, Althorp, in Northamptonshire. There, she was buried on a quiet island in a lake. This special place has water lilies and white roses, her favorite flowers. Her family can visit her there without big crowds.

People in many cities and countries held special events to remember Princess Diana. In Washington, D.C., a service was held at Washington National Cathedral. In Paris, people visited the Flame of Liberty to leave flowers and messages. Many countries held memorial services and candlelight vigils to show their respect.
