The IUCN Red List is a special list that helps people learn about animals and plants that might disappear one day. It was started in 1964 by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. This list shows how safe or unsafe different kinds of living things are.

Many groups work together to help keep the list up to date. These groups include BirdLife International, the Institute of Zoology, the World Conservation Monitoring Centre, and the IUCN Species Survival Commission. Experts look at each animal and plant to see if it is in danger.

The IUCN Red List puts animals and plants into different groups to show how close they are to disappearing. Some of these groups are Critically endangered, Endangered, and Vulnerable. This helps scientists and governments know which animals and plants need help to stay alive.

People all around the world use the IUCN Red List to guide them in protecting nature. It helps everyone work together to save threatened species and keep our planet beautiful and full of life.
