Katy Perry was born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson on October 25, 1984, in Santa Barbara, California. She grew up in a family where her parents were Pentecostal pastors. Her family moved around a lot when she was young, but they eventually settled back in Santa Barbara. Katy has a younger brother, David, who is also a singer, and an older sister, Angela.
Katy started her music career very young. At just 16 years old, she released a gospel album called Katy Hudson. Later, she moved to Los Angeles and signed with a big record company. Her big break came with the pop rock album One of the Boys, which included the hit song “I Kissed a Girl.” Her next album, Teenage Dream, was even more successful and is considered one of the best pop albums ever.

Her album Teenage Dream was very successful, and it was the first album by a female artist to have five songs reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Katy’s songs have sold millions of copies around the world, making her one of the best-selling music artists ever.
Besides music, Katy Perry has acted in movies, launched her own shoe line, and served as a judge on the TV show American Idol. She is also known for supporting important causes like LGBT rights, women’s rights, and children’s education. In 2013, she became a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador to help children in places like Madagascar. She has helped build shelters for young people and supported music education in schools.
