What is a Leaf?
A leaf is one of the most important parts of a plant. It grows from the stem and helps the plant make its own food. This happens through a special process called photosynthesis. Leaves are usually green because of something called chlorophyll. This green magic helps the plant turn sunlight, water, and air into tasty food for itself.
Different Shapes and Sizes
Leaves come in many fun shapes and sizes! Some are big and wide, while others are tiny and narrow. They can be round, pointy, or even look like little fingers. No matter what they look like, most leaves have a top and a bottom side. They also have tiny holes called stomata that help the plant breathe and make food.
Why Leaves Matter
Leaves are super important for our world. They help clean the air by taking in bad stuff and putting out fresh oxygen. Animals also love leaves—they eat them or use them for homes. In the fall, many leaves turn beautiful red, orange, or yellow colors before they fall off the trees. This makes autumn very colorful and fun to explore!
