Welcome to Liberia!
Liberia is a beautiful country in West Africa. It is next to the Atlantic Ocean and has friendly neighbors like Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Ivory Coast. The capital city is Monrovia, named after a famous American president.
A Special History
Long ago, people lived along the coast and in forests. Later, a group from the United States helped freed slaves start a new life here. They brought ideas from America, like the flag and government style. On July 26, 1847, Liberia became its own country—the first in Africa to do so!

Liberia has amazing forests and rivers. One of the longest rivers is the Cavalla, flowing into the ocean. The highest mountain is Mount Wuteve, standing tall at 4,724 feet. You can find many animals in places like Sapo National Park, including monkeys and birds.
Daily Life
People in Liberia speak English and many other languages. Most families are Christian, and they enjoy traditions from different cultures. Children go to school, and some attend universities like the University of Liberia. Life can be busy, but everyone works together to make their communities strong.
