What is Life?

Life is all around us! It is everything that can grow, change, and make more of itself. Life can be tiny, like a bug, or big, like an elephant. All living things need food and water to stay healthy.

Living Things

Living things can be plants, animals, fungi, or tiny microorganisms. They all have special parts called cells that help them stay alive. Some living things, like bacteria, are made of just one cell. Others, like you and me, are made of many cells working together.

Why Life is Special

Life is special because it can grow and change. A small seed can grow into a tall tree. A tiny fish can grow into a big one. Living things can also respond to their world. For example, plants turn toward the sun to get light, and animals move when they hear a sound.

Life on Earth

Life has been on Earth for a very long time โ€” more than 3.5 billion years! It started with very small organisms and slowly changed over time. Today, there are millions of different kinds of living things, from insects to whales. They all need a place to live, like a forest, the ocean, or even deep inside the soil.

Life is wonderful and everywhere! It makes our world a beautiful place.
