Light

Light is something that helps us see the world around us. It makes things bright and lets us know colors and shapes. The main source of light for Earth is the Sun. The Sun shines and gives us light during the day.

People also use many kinds of lights at night. These include electric lights like lamps and flashlights. In the past, people used fires and candles for light. Today, lights are easy to turn on and off.

Light is a type of energy that travels very fast. It moves at 299,792,458 meters per second in empty space. This amazing speed is called the speed of light.

Light comes in many colors. We see these colors as red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. When light passes through something like a prism, we can see all the colors come apart. This is why rainbows appear after rain.

Light can also come from living things. For example, fireflies make their own light to attract friends. The Sun’s light helps green plants make food. Without light, many plants and animals could not live.

Light helps us in many ways. It makes our homes bright, helps us see when we walk outside, and lets us enjoy colorful pictures and objects. Next time you turn on a light, think about how amazing and important light is for our world!
