All About Lions
Lions are big, strong cats that live in warm places. They are known as the "King of the Beasts" because they look so powerful. Today, most lions live in Sub-Saharan Africa, but a smaller group lives in western India.
Lions have thick fur and strong muscles. Male lions grow a fluffy mane around their necks that makes them look very tough. Females, called lionesses, do not have manes. Both males and females have sharp teeth and strong paws for catching food.
Lions love to rest and sleep a lot. They usually get active at night or in the evening. They live in groups called prides. A pride has several lionesses, a few males, and their cubs. Lions are good hunters and work together to catch animals like zebras and wildebeest.
People admire lions and often put them in stories, art, and even on flags. They appear in many cultures as symbols of strength and bravery. Lions also live in zoological gardens where people can visit and learn about them.
Lions face some challenges today because their homes are disappearing. Protected areas and careful care help keep lion populations safe and healthy for the future.
