Discover Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu is an amazing old city built by the Inca people. It is high in the mountains of Peru. Imagine a place with tall mountains all around and stone buildings that look like they were made by magic!
People think Machu Picchu was built around 1450. It might have been a special home for an important Inca leader named Pachacuti. Even though we don’t have old writings to prove it, we can see how wonderful the buildings are. The city has special places like the Temple of the Sun and a stone that looks like it points to the sun.
Machu Picchu means “old mountain” in the Quechua language. The city sits between two big peaks named Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu. Long ago, only local people knew about it. But in 1911, an explorer named Hiram Bingham III visited and told the world about this hidden treasure.
Today, Machu Picchu is one of the most famous places on Earth. It was named a special UNESCO World Heritage Site and is very important to Peru. Many people visit every year to walk among the old stones and feel the magic of the Inca world. The city is cared for very carefully to keep it safe for everyone to enjoy.
