Polar Regions of Earth

The polar regions of Earth are cold, icy places near the North Pole and the South Pole. These areas are covered in snow and ice all year round, making them some of the coldest spots on our planet.

In the north, the Arctic Ocean is mostly covered with floating sea ice. Many animals, like polar bears, live here and have special ways to stay warm. In the south, the continent of Antarctica is covered with thick ice. It is surrounded by the Southern Ocean, and animals like penguins and seals make their home along the coasts.

These icy places are important for our world. They help keep the Earth's temperature balanced by reflecting sunlight back into space. Scientists visit these regions to learn about our planet and how changes in the weather affect everywhere else.

The Arctic has some people living in places like Alaska, Canada, and Greenland. But Antarctica has no permanent homes; only scientists stay there for short times to study and learn. Both polar regions are special and full of amazing life that has learned to survive in the cold.
