Ryukyuans
Adapted from Wikipedia · Explorer experience
The Ryukyuans are a special group of people who live on the beautiful Ryukyu Islands. These islands stretch between Kyushu and Taiwan, with most Ryukyuans today living in Okinawa Prefecture and Kagoshima Prefecture in Japan.
People from the Ryukyu Islands have their own special way of speaking, called the Ryukyuan languages. These languages are closely related to the Japanese language, but they have their own unique words and sounds.
Long ago, in the 1300s, the Ryukyuans formed their own kingdom called the Ryukyu Kingdom. This kingdom was good at trading with many places, including Ming China. Because of their skills in trade and their special location, the Ryukyu Kingdom became very important.
Today, many Ryukyuans feel proud of their culture and traditions. They enjoy special foods, music, and dances that tell stories of their past. One famous Ryukyuan tradition is the martial art of karate, which started as a way to protect oneself. The Ryukyu Islands are a wonderful place full of history, culture, and friendly people.
