Shere Khan

Shere Khan is a famous character from the stories about Mowgli in The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling. He is a Bengal tiger and one of the most remembered characters from these tales.

Shere Khan’s name comes from an old leader named Sher Shah Suri from Afghanistan. The word Khan means a chief or ruler. In the stories, Shere Khan thinks he should be the leader of the jungle.

In the adventures, Shere Khan is known for wanting Mowgli, a boy raised by animals, to leave the jungle. Many friends help Mowgli stay safe, like Bagheera the panther and Baloo the bear.

Shere Khan appears in many movies and shows based on The Jungle Book. Each version shows him a little differently, but he is always a strong tiger who likes to be in charge. People all over the world know about Shere Khan because of these fun stories and films.
