What Is a Telephone?
A telephone, or phone, is a fun device that helps people talk to each other when they are far away. It changes sound, like your voice, into special signals. These signals travel through wires or air waves to another phone. Then, the other phone changes the signals back into sound so the person far away can hear you.
A Special Invention
The telephone was invented a long time ago. Alexander Graham Bell got the first special permission, called a patent, in 1876 for a phone that could clearly copy a voice. Many clever people helped improve the telephone after that. Today, phones are very important in business, government, and homes all around the world.
How a Telephone Works
A telephone has two main parts: a microphone to speak into and an earphone to listen with. These parts are usually in a handset that you hold to your ear and mouth when talking. When someone calls you, the phone makes a ringing sound or a light to let you know. You usually start a call by using buttons or a dial to enter a telephone number. This number tells the phone system where to send your call.
Fun Picture
Phones have changed a lot over the years. From big wall phones to small mobile phones you can carry everywhere, telephones make it easy to stay connected with friends and family, no matter where they are.
