Wind Turbines
Wind turbines are tall machines that use the wind to make electricity. They look like big fans with long blades that spin when the wind blows. These spinning blades turn a generator inside the turbine, creating clean power for homes and cities.
Wind turbines can be found all over the world. Some are built on land, while others are placed out at sea, called offshore wind farms. One famous example is the Thorntonbank Wind Farm in the North Sea off the coast of Belgium. It uses big turbines to make lots of electricity.
These machines come in many sizes. Small turbines can power a single home or a school, while huge ones in wind farms can light up entire towns. The most common turbines have three blades, but there are other shapes too, like the Darrieus and Savonius types.
People have used wind for thousands of years. Long ago, Hero of Alexandria made a simple windwheel. Today, wind turbines help us use clean energy and reduce the need for polluting fuels. They are a key part of making our world greener and healthier for everyone.
