Animals are often used in science to help us learn how living things work. These animals are called model organisms. Scientists pick certain animals because they are easy to care for, breed, and study.

One common model organism is Drosophila, a type of fruit fly. These flies help scientists learn about genetics and how living things grow and develop.

Other model organisms include molluscs, such as snails and clams, and a tiny worm called Caenorhabditis elegans. These creatures help researchers study how cells and bodies work in a simple way. Scientists also use chordates, which include animals like tunicates, small sea creatures that are related to humans. Some vertebrates, like mice and zebrafish, are also important model organisms.

By studying these model organisms, scientists can find information that helps improve human health and understand nature better. These animals give valuable clues about how life works, from the smallest cells to whole organisms.
