Adapted from Wikipedia · Adventurer experience
Gay men are male homosexuals. In the past, different words were used to describe them, such as inverts and uranians.
Today, many gay men still face discrimination in large parts of the world, especially in parts of Asia and Africa. But things are getting better. Some gay men have achieved great success. For example, Apple CEO Tim Cook and leaders like Edgars Rinkēvičs, President of Latvia since 2023, and Scott Bessent, the United States Secretary of the Treasury since 2025, are openly gay.
The word gay is used by LGBTQ groups and style guides to describe people who are only attracted to others of the same sex. The word lesbian means women who are attracted to other women, while gay men means men attracted to other men.

Different cultures have had different ideas about relationships between men. In some ancient times, these relationships were accepted and even celebrated. In other places, they were not allowed.
For example, in ancient Greece, relationships between older and younger men were part of learning and teaching, but there were rules.
Many famous leaders and thinkers long ago are thought to have had relationships with other men. But we must remember that ideas about love and relationships were different then. As societies changed, especially with new religions like Christianity, rules against relationships between men became more common. Today, ideas are still changing, and many places are working to treat everyone fairly, no matter who they love.

When they appear, they are usually supporting characters or even shown as villains. In many countries, gay men can become fathers through adoption, having a child with a partner in the past, or using a surrogate. Even though gay families are becoming more visible, they often face unfair treatment. Studies show that children of gay fathers grow up just as healthy and happy as children of parents who are not gay.
Older gay men are a group that isn’t studied very often. In some places, like Mexico, older gay men can feel lonely, especially if they don’t have children or family support. In the United States, many older gay men are happy and well-adjusted.
