Geometry & Topology
Geometry & Topology is a special journal for mathematicians who study two big ideas: geometry and topology. Geometry is about shapes, sizes, and how things fit together, like triangles, circles, and spheres. Topology looks at how objects can be stretched, bent, or twisted without changing their basic shape—like how a coffee cup and a donut are the same in topology because both have one hole.
This journal was started in 1997 by a group of topology experts who wanted a better way to share their discoveries. They were unhappy with how expensive other journals had become, so they created one that was more affordable. For the first ten years, anyone could read the journal for free online, making it easy for people all over the world to learn from the latest research.
Today, Geometry & Topology is very well known and respected. It has published some really important discoveries, like solving big questions such as the Property P conjecture and the Birman conjecture. The journal is based at the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom and is put out by Mathematical Sciences Publishers, a group that doesn’t try to make a profit from sharing knowledge. Readers can still find older articles for free online, and new ones are available to those who pay a small fee.
