Giovanni Gallavotti is an Italian mathematical physicist. He was born in Naples on 29 December 1941. He is known for his important work in understanding how complex systems behave. His work focuses on areas like statistical physics and dynamical systems.

Gallavotti has received many honors for his contributions to science. In 1997, he was awarded the "Premio Nazionale Presidente della Repubblica" by the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. In 2007, he received the prestigious Boltzmann Medal from the IUPAP- International Union of Pure and Applied Physics. This was for his work on equilibrium and non-equilibrium statistical physics.

He was also an Invited Speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in 1986 and a Plenary Speaker in 1998. In 2018, he was given the Henri Poincaré Prize for his contributions to many areas of physics. These areas include quantum field theory and chaotic systems. His father was the physicist Carlo Gallavotti.

Selected publications

Giovanni Gallavotti has written many important books about physics. Some of his well-known works include Renormalization Group, Statistical Mechanics: A Short Treatise, and Foundations of Fluid Dynamics. These books help people understand complex ideas in physics better. He has also edited books like The Fermi-Pasta-Ulam Problem: A Status Report and Boltzmann's Legacy, which gather studies and thoughts from many scientists.
