Skylarking (birds)
Skylarking is a special kind of behavior in birds where they fly high and show off with aerial displays and songs. Many birds, like the Cassin's sparrow, do this to attract mates during courtship. Male birds also use these beautiful flights and songs to mark their territory.
Some birdwatchers think skylarking might help birds stay safe. In rare cases, a male bird might use its display to confuse a predator. The idea is that the predator might mistake the bird for something else, causing it to stop chasing. This clever trick doesn't work very often, but skylarking is one of the amazing ways birds communicate and survive in nature.
