Chern Medal
Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience
The Chern Medal is an important award for mathematicians. It honors people who have done amazing work in mathematics throughout their lives. This special prize is given at the International Congress of Mathematicians, a big meeting that happens once every four years.
It is not to be confused with the Chern Prize or the Chern Award, which are different awards given by other groups. The Chern Medal was created to celebrate the biggest achievements in math and to show how much these ideas matter to the world.
Introduction
The Chern Medal honors the memory of mathematician Shiing-Shen Chern. Given every four years at the International Congress of Mathematicians, it is awarded by the International Mathematical Union and the Chern Medal Foundation. The first award was presented in Hyderabad, India in 2010.
Winners of the Chern Medal receive a special medal featuring Chern’s image, a cash prize of $250,000 (USD), and can also choose where to give another $250,000 to support math research, education, or outreach.
Laureates
The Chern Medal is a special award given to mathematicians for their amazing work throughout their lives. It is presented every four years at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM). Many talented mathematicians have received this honor for their important contributions to the world of math.
