Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience
Chocolate-coated peanuts are a tasty treat that many people enjoy. They are peanuts wrapped in a thin layer of chocolate, making them a sweet and crunchy snack. You can often find them at places like movie theaters, where they are sold at the concession counter.
One of the most well-known brands of chocolate-coated peanuts is called Goobers, made by Nestlé. This brand has been popular for many years and can be found in grocery stores and movie theaters all over the world. There are also many other brands that make chocolate-coated peanuts.
For those who don't eat dairy, there are vegan versions of chocolate-coated peanuts. These are made without any dairy products and instead use ingredients like sugar, cocoa mass, cocoa butter, and vanillin to create a delicious chocolate coating around the peanuts.
History
Goobers, a type of chocolate-coated peanut, were first introduced in the United States in 1925 by the Blumenthal Chocolate Company. Over the years, the brand changed ownership several times. Ward Foods bought Blumenthal in 1969, and then the Terson Company acquired Ward Foods in 1981. Nestlé took over the brand in 1984, and today, Ferrero owns Goobers after acquiring many of Nestlé’s USA chocolate products in 2018.
Etymology
The word "goober" is an American English term for peanut. It likely comes from the Gullah word guber, which also means "peanut." The Gullah word itself is derived from the KiKongo word n'guba.
