Crime Watch Daily was an American syndicated investigative news magazine television program. It first aired on September 14, 2015, and was originally hosted by veteran Australian television journalist Matt Doran. Later seasons were hosted by former NBC News investigative reporter Chris Hansen.

The show was produced by Telepictures and distributed by Warner Bros. Television Distribution. It featured a mix of investigative reports, true crime stories, and footage from police and security cameras.

Crime Watch Daily was cancelled on June 8, 2018. However, its website and social media continued under the new title of True Crime Daily, which is now known as True Crime News. Reruns of the show began airing in February 2019 on Ion Mystery.

Format

The program showed current and ongoing crime stories, including those about people who vanished and unsolved cases of harm. It also featured reports on secret investigations from all over the United States and the world, as well as some court cases.

Each episode included special segments:

  • Crime Watch Local โ€“ a daily part focusing on a specific crime or mystery from one of the program's affiliate stations, with an interview from a reporter.
  • Daily Watch List โ€“ a part in most episodes that highlighted important crime news from across the United States.
  • Bad Seed of the Day โ€“ a weekly segment about a person and the bad thing they did.
  • Crime Watch Daily Heat Map โ€“ a segment showing unusual crime stories from around the U.S., grouped by a theme.
  • Wild About Trial โ€“ a weekly segment with updates on ongoing court cases.
  • CrimeTube โ€“ a daily ending segment with videos of police actions and law enforcement activities from public cameras and police recordings.

The showโ€™s style was inspired by an earlier program called Celebrity Justice, but focused more on real crime stories than celebrity legal issues.

Production and distribution

Crime Watch Daily started in September 2015 and was first hosted by Australian journalist Matt Doran. Later, from its second season, former NBC News reporter Chris Hansen took over as host. The show focused on true crime stories and worked with many TV stations across the United States to share news reports.

The program began with support from Tribune Broadcasting, which helped it reach many viewers. Over time, more stations joined, allowing the show to cover almost the whole country. Even though it was about crime, the Federal Communications Commission let it count as a news program. The show ended its run in June 2018 after three seasons.

Second life as web-only True Crime Daily

On September 20, 2018, the show returned online under a new name, True Crime Daily. It continued sharing news about real crimes, but this time only through the internet. The website used fewer resources and worked with its old stations to bring these stories to people online.

Revival

In July 2024, Warner Bros. and Telepictures announced they would bring True Crime Daily back to television. The show, now called True Crime News, was hosted by newscaster Ana Garcia. She was also the host of the True Crime Daily podcast and had worked as a reporter for the original Crime Watch Daily television series. The show started on September 9, 2024.

In March 2025, the show was cancelled after one season because it did not get enough viewers.
