"Ichthyology & Herpetology" is a special science journal that shares important discoveries about fish and amphibians and reptiles. It used to be called "Copeia," named after Edward Drinker Cope, a famous scientist who studied these animals. This journal is made by the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists, a group of experts who love learning about fish and animals that live on land but breathe through their skin.

The journal publishes research every three months and is checked by other scientists to make sure the information is correct. In 2021, it was ranked 65th among all zoology journals, which means many scientists read and trust its work. People who study fish or animals like frogs, salamanders, and lizards often look at this journal to learn about new findings and share their own ideas.

History

On December 27, 1913, John Treadwell Nichols published the first issue of Copeia. This first issue was a small pamphlet with just four pages and five articles. It was created by the contributors to support the study of cold-blooded vertebrates.

In 2020, the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists decided to rename the journal to Ichthyology & Herpetology. The change happened because the original name honored Edward Drinker Cope, whose outdated views were no longer acceptable. The first articles under the new name were published online in March 2021.
