They won their quarterfinal match but lost the next two, finishing in fourth place. The women's team also did well in the early matches and reached the medal round, but they lost their quarterfinal and finished in a tie for fifth place.

Water polo

Italy took part in both the men's and women's water polo events at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. The men's team ended up in 9th place, and the women's team finished in 6th place.

The Italian men's water polo team had a head coach named Paolo Malara. They played several matches in their group stage and later took part in classification games to decide their final standing.

The Italian women's water polo team was led by head coach Mauro Maugeri. Like the men's team, they also competed in group play and then in matches to determine their final positions. All matches were held in China Standard Time (UTC+8).
