LHS 292 is a red dwarf star located in the constellation Sextans. Because it is very dim, you need a large amateur telescope to see it. This star is one of the closest to Earth, lying about 14.871 light-years away.

LHS 292 is special because it is a flare star. This means that sometimes it can suddenly become much brighter for a short time. Scientists study stars like LHS 292 to learn more about the lives of small, cool stars and how they behave over time.

Astronomers also measure how fast LHS 292 is moving through space. Its space velocity is described by three numbers: [U, V, W] = [28, โˆ’16, โˆ’14] km/s, which help us understand its path and movement relative to the Sun.
