Procera

A caecilian called Uraeotyphlus interruptus, a limbless amphibian found in nature.

Procera is a hypothetical group of amphibians that includes salamanders and caecilians but not frogs. Scientists have suggested this group as an alternative to the more commonly accepted idea that salamanders and frogs are each other's closest relatives within a group called Batrachia.

The idea of Procera was first proposed in 1998. Since then, only a few recent studies looking at both physical features and molecular data have supported this view. This means that while Procera is an interesting idea, it is not yet widely accepted by scientists as the best way to understand the relationships among these interesting amphibians.
