Pyrotechnicians are people who safely store, handle, and operate pyrotechnics and pyrotechnic devices. These are special effects that create fireworks, flashes, or sounds in shows and movies. Pyrotechnicians make sure everything is safe and works correctly during performances.

The term is mostly used for those who work in the entertainment industry, like in concerts, films, or theater. They handle materials that can explode or make loud noises, but at a controlled level for special effects.

People who work with more powerful explosives for things like demolition or the military are usually called explosive technicians. Still, all these jobs need careful training and safety rules to protect everyone.

Certification

It is common for people who work with pyrotechnics to have some form of license or certification. The rules for getting certified can be different in each jurisdiction, but most places require some basic fireworks training before someone can apply for certification.

In Australia, people must get a license from the state government. They need to be at least 18 years old and have the right training. They also have to keep a record of their work every year when their license is renewed.

In Canada, the government handles certification through Natural Resources Canada. People must also be at least 18 and have government training. Canada has different kinds of licenses for different types of pyrotechnics. There are three main levels: Pyrotechnician, Senior Pyrotechnician, and Special Effects Technician. Each level allows for more advanced work and each license is good for five years.

In the United States, each state can have its own rules about certification. Some states require certification for all pyrotechnics, while others only need it for certain types. Companies that work with pyrotechnics also need a special license from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
