The Sea or the Water is an area of the sky where many water-related constellations can be found. This region includes only a few land-related constellations, which may be because the Sun passes through this part of the sky during the rainy season.
Most of these constellations were named by the ancient astronomer Ptolemy. They include Aquarius the Water-bearer, Capricornus the Sea-goat, Cetus the Whale, Delphinus the Dolphin, Eridanus the Great River, Hydra the Water serpent, Pisces the Fishes, and Piscis Austrinus the Southern Fish. Sometimes the ship Argo and Crater the Water Cup are also included in this group.
There are also newer water-themed constellations not found in this region. These include Hydrus the lesser water snake, Volans the flying fish, and Dorado the swordfish.
