Sopka (hill)

A Sopka is a special kind of hill or mountain found in several parts of Russia. These hills usually have rounded tops and gentle slopes, making them look soft and smooth from far away. You can find Sopkas in places like the Transbaikal region, the Kola Peninsula, and the Russian Far East. They are also found on the Kamchatka Peninsula and the Kuril Islands, where some Sopkas are actually volcanoes.

In other areas, such as Crimea and the Caucasus, Sopkas can be mud volcanoes. These are not like the usual volcanoes that erupt with lava; instead, they sometimes push up mud and gas.
