Portrait of Erhard Hübener, a historical figure.

The State of Saxony-Anhalt was a region in eastern Germany that existed between 1945 and 1952. It was created after World War II by the Soviet Military Administration in Germany and was part of the Soviet occupation zone, later becoming a state in East Germany. The area was originally called the Province of Saxony and included parts of several older regions, such as Halle-Merseburg, Magdeburg, and small sections of Thuringia and Anhalt.

During this time, the region had its own government and held elections, although the Soviet authorities had final approval over decisions. In 1949, East Germany was formed, and Saxony-Anhalt became one of its states. However, in 1952, the East German government dissolved the state and divided its area into smaller administrative regions called Bezirke. This change was part of the country's move toward a more centralized system, which lasted until after the peaceful revolution in 1989, when the original states were re-established.
