The Taipei Twins (Chinese: 台北雙星; pinyin: Táiběi Shuāngxīng) is a supertall skyscraper development in Taipei, Taiwan. Scheduled to be completed in 2028, it will include two skyscrapers. The taller one will be 360 metres (1,181 ft 1 in) with 70 floors, and the shorter one will be 280 metres (918 ft 8 in) with 53 floors. This impressive structure is located near Taipei Station, Shin Kong Life Tower, and Taipei Bus Station.
When the complex is finished, the taller tower will become the second tallest building in Taiwan. It will surpass the 347.5 metres (1,140 ft 1 in) 85 Sky Tower in Kaohsiung, which was completed in 1997. The entire project is estimated to cost NT$60.6 billion, which is about US$1.95 billion. These twin towers will be a major addition to Taipei’s skyline and a sign of the city’s growth.
History
The Taipei Twin Towers project was first planned in 2005 by architect Fumihiko Maki, but faced many delays and changes over the years. In 2018, a new design was chosen, aiming to create a vibrant area near Taipei Station.
In 2019, the original winning bid was changed due to national security concerns, and a new team took over the project. Construction officially started in November 2022, with the mayor of Taipei attending the ceremony. The buildings are expected to be finished in 2028.
