The World Parrot Trust is an international charity dedicated to saving parrots. It works to protect these colorful and intelligent birds, many of which are facing threats in the wild due to habitat loss and other dangers. The Trust helps by supporting research, conservation projects, and education programs around the world. By working with local communities and experts, it aims to ensure that parrot populations thrive for years to come. Their efforts include creating safe homes for parrots in need and teaching people how to care for these amazing creatures properly.
History
The World Parrot Trust was founded in 1989 at Paradise Park in Cornwall, UK. Its main goal was to help all parrot species survive and to care for individual birds, both in the wild and in captivity. The Trust supported this mission by funding important conservation efforts, research projects, and educational programs around the world.
Fundraising
The World Parrot Trust has raised over $2.0 million US to help protect parrots. This money has supported projects in 43 different countries, helping 70 kinds of parrot species. The Trust has grown to include groups in Africa, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Italy, Netherlands, Scandinavia, Spain and the United States.
Parrot Action Plan
In 1999, the World Parrot Trust worked with the IUCN to create the Parrot Action Plan. This plan aimed to protect 89 different kinds of parrots. The main threats to these parrots were losing their homes because of habitat destruction and being sold around the world for pets and other products. The plan helped guide efforts to save these birds.
