Śródmieście, Warsaw is the central district of Warsaw, the capital city of Poland. It is often called Downtown in English. This area includes the Old Town, which is the historic core of the city. Because it is the heart of Warsaw, Śródmieście is very important for culture, business, and government. Many people visit here to see historic places, shop, or take part in events that happen in the city.

Geography

Śródmieście is the central district of Warsaw, Poland. It covers about 15.57 km2 (6 sq mi). The Vistula River is to the east, and the historic Old Town is in the center.

The district borders four other areas: Żoliborz to the north, Wola to the west, Ochota to the south-west, and Mokotów to the south. It is an important part of Warsaw's busy city life.

Subdivisions

Śródmieście is divided into nine local areas. Each area has a group of people who help make decisions. This way of organizing started on 10 March 2016.

The district is also split into special zones called the City Information System. This way of dividing the area began in 1996. The zones include:

Cityscape

Śródmieście is the central district of Warsaw. It is full of important places to see. You can visit the historic Warsaw Old Town with its beautiful old buildings. Other interesting spots include the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, the grand Presidential Palace, and the lovely Łazienki Park. There are also famous bridges like the Gdańsk Bridge and Poniatowski Bridge. Busy squares and streets such as Castle Square and Theatre Square are always lively. Śródmieście is a wonderful place to explore.

Education

Śródmieście, the central district of Warsaw, has many important schools and universities. Well-known schools include the University of Warsaw, Warsaw University of Technology, and the Chopin University of Music. There are also special schools for music, drama, and art, such as the Collegium Civitas, WSB University, Warsaw, Aleksander Zelwerowicz National Academy of Dramatic Art, and the Academy of Fine Arts. One of the top high schools is the Stefan Batory High School.
