Antonietta Di Martino

Antonietta Di Martino (born 1 June 1978) is a retired Italian high jumper. She set records for the highest jumps in both outdoor and indoor events. Her outdoor record was 2.03 metres, and her indoor record was 2.04 metres. She also holds a special record for jumping much higher than her own height.

Her international career began with a silver medal at the 2007 European Indoor Championships in Birmingham. That same year, she won another silver medal at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka. After facing challenges at the Olympics in Beijing, she achieved more success. She won gold at the European Indoor Championships in 2011 in Paris and a bronze medal at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu. In 2012, she added another silver medal from the World Indoor Championships.

Biography

Antonietta Di Martino was born on 1 June 1978 in Cava de' Tirreni. She began athletics at age 12 and first tried the javelin throw before becoming a high jumper. In 2001, she joined the national team for heptathlon.

In 2007, Di Martino broke the Italian indoor high jump record with a jump of 2.00 metres. She won silver medals at the 2007 European Indoor Championships and the 2007 World Championships with a jump of 2.03 metres.

After an injury in 2008, she came back in 2009 and won several competitions, including gold at the 2010 European Team Championships and the 2011 European Indoor Championship. Her best outdoor jump is 2.03 metres, done in Milan in 2007, and her best indoor jump is 2.04 metres, done in Slovakia in 2011.

In April 2012, Di Martino hurt her knee and needed surgery. This stopped her from competing in the Olympic Games that year.

National records

Antonietta Di Martino set the Italian record for high jump. In 2007, she jumped 2.03 m in both Milan and Osaka. In February 2009, she jumped 2.04 m indoors in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia. She is the current record holder for these jumps.
