Biathlon at the 1968 Winter Olympics – Individual

The men's 20 kilometre individual biathlon competition was an exciting event at the 1968 Winter Olympics. It took place on February 12 at Autrans.

In biathlon, athletes ski a long distance and stop to shoot at targets. If they missed a target, they added extra time to their result. This combined test of skiing and shooting skills made it a thrilling event.

Results

Two biathletes stood out in the individual event. Magnar Solberg was one of only two men to hit all their targets, and had the second fastest ski time. Aleksandr Tikhonov skied faster, but lost time because of penalties, taking the silver medal. Vladimir Gundartsev won the bronze medal for the Soviet Union.
