Brétigny-sur-Orge is a small town near Paris in France. It is about 26.7 kilometers or 16.6 miles from the center of Paris. The town's name means "Brétigny on Orge," named after the nearby Orge river. Brétigny-sur-Orge has its own local government and services. It is a quiet place where people live and work, close to the busy city.
Origin of the city name
The name of Brétigny-sur-Orge has changed over time. It was first recorded as Britiniacum in 1146, then as Bretigniacum in 1548, and later as Breteigny.
The name comes from old Latin and means "property of the Breton." This shows that long ago, the land belonged to someone from Britain. Later, the town became part of the land owned by kings from the Merovingians. The town's current name was added in later years.

Notable residents
Brétigny-sur-Orge has been home to several well-known people. Cédric Collet, a footballer who played for the Guadeloupe national team, was born there. Another footballer, Cédric Baseya, also born in Brétigny, played for Le Havre AC and some English clubs before becoming a free agent.
Other notable individuals include Antoine-Gaspard Boucher d'Argis, a lawyer and encyclopedist who lived in the Castle of la Fontaine in Brétigny. Jean de Boishue, a politician and former mayor of the town, was also from Brétigny. Football players Patrice Évra and Jérémy Ménez both played for the local team, CS Brétigny, during their early careers.
