Cabinet of Thailand

The cabinet of Thailand (formally, the Council of Ministers of Thailand) is a group of thirty-five important leaders in the government of the Kingdom of Thailand. This group is the main part of the executive branch of the Thai government, helping to make big decisions and run the country. The cabinet is led by the Prime Minister of Thailand and its members are chosen by the prime minister and officially appointed by the King of Thailand. Most of these leaders are in charge of different government departments, and they work together to guide and manage Thailand.

Before the Revolution of 1932, the kings of Siam ruled with help from senior princes and officials. In 1874, King Chulalongkorn made a special council to help him govern. Later, in 1925, King Prajadhipok made another group of princes to help lead.

After the revolution in 1932, a new government was formed. This group was called the People's Committee of Siam and had a president. Soon after, the name changed to the "council of ministers," and its leader became the prime minister. The first leader of this new cabinet was Phraya Manopakorn Nititada. Since then, Thailand has had many different cabinets.

Ministers of State

In Thailand, the cabinet is made up of up to 35 important government leaders. To become a minister, a person must be a Thai citizen by birth, older than 35 years, and have at least a bachelor's degree. They also cannot be a monk or someone who has faced serious legal troubles.

Ministers are officially chosen by the king, but the prime minister suggests who should be chosen. Before starting their job, ministers promise to work faithfully for Thailand and follow the rules set by the constitution. They must explain their plans to the National Assembly within fifteen days of taking office. The National Assembly can ask ministers to explain their actions and can even remove a minister if enough members vote against them.

The Cabinet

The Cabinet of Thailand is the main group that helps run the government. It makes important decisions and creates policies for the country. The Cabinet can suggest new laws to the National Assembly and call special meetings to discuss important issues.

All members of the Cabinet must support the government's policies, even if they have personal disagreements. If the government or its policies fail, the whole Cabinet must step down together. The Cabinet works closely with the Prime Minister and has a term that matches the Prime Minister’s time in office. The Leader of the Opposition can also form his own group called a Shadow Cabinet.

Current Cabinet

On 30 March 2026, King Vajiralongkorn chose 35 important leaders for Thailand's government. These leaders were picked by Anutin Charnvirakul, who was re-elected to lead again. The group includes seven deputy leaders who help the main leader, called the prime minister.
