Canada joined the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It was a big event where athletes from many countries competed in sports.

Sixty-nine Canadian athletes took part—62 men and 7 women. They joined 49 events in 8 sports, trying to win medals. The Olympics is a special tradition where people from around the world meet to celebrate sports and fair play.

Athletics

Canada sent 32 athletes to the track and field events at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. This was Canada's 7th time in these events. Canada won 4 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals.

The women's relay team set a new world record twice on their way to winning gold. Percy Williams won both men's sprint races. Bobbie Rosenfeld ran a quick time in the women's 100 metres race during the semifinals.

After the Olympics, some athletes went on to compete in games in Ireland, England, and Scotland.

Six male cyclists from Canada joined the games in 1928. This was Canada's fifth time taking part in cycling at the Olympics. One of the cyclists, Joe Laporte, had also competed in the 1924 Olympics.

In 1928, one man from Canada competed in diving at the Summer Olympics. This was Canada's fourth time in diving and the first since 1920. The diver, named Phillips, made it to the finals in both events and finished in 7th place each time.

Rowing

In 1928, 11 male rowers from Canada joined the Olympic rowing events. This was Canada’s 6th time in rowing, the same as Belgium and Great Britain. Canada used 3 boats to race. The team won a silver medal in the men's double sculls, their best ever in this event, and a bronze medal in the men's eight. They almost made the top five in the men's single sculls.

Swimming

In 1928, six swimmers from Canada, including five men and one woman, took part in the Olympics. This was Canada's fifth time in swimming and the first time a Canadian woman was on the team. Canada won a bronze medal in the men's relay event, their first swimming medal since 1920. In individual events, Canadian swimmers reached the finals three times but finished in sixth place each time.
