Chilevisión, often called CHV, is a television channel in Chile that anyone can watch for free. It started on 4 November 1960 and was founded by the University of Chile. This makes it the third oldest television network in Chile.
For many years, different companies owned Chilevisión. From 2010 to 2021, it was owned by TimeWarner/WarnerMedia, and from 2021 to 2026, it was owned by Paramount Global and later Paramount Skydance. In 2026, ownership changed to the Vytal Group.
Today, Vytal Group also owns other television channels such as Canal CHV Noticias, CHV de Culto, and UChileTV. Chilevisión continues to be a popular channel based in Santiago, providing entertainment and news to people across Chile.
History
Chilevisión, often called CHV, started as a project of the University of Chile. It began on November 4, 1960, making it one of the oldest TV channels in Chile. The university created it to help with education and culture, reaching people in rural areas who couldn’t easily go to school.
Over the years, Chilevisión changed owners many times. In 1993, the University of Chile sold part of it and renamed the channel to Chilevisión. Later, it was sold to different companies, including Turner Broadcasting System Latin America and ViacomCBS. Most recently, in January 2026, it became part of the Vytal Group. Throughout its history, the channel has kept its original frequency, which the university still owns but allows Chilevisión to use under a special agreement.

Another channel called TV Chile, owned by TVN, also shared some Chilevisión shows with people in the Americas who came from Chile.
Controversies
Chilevisión has had some controversies over the years. Since 1978, it has broadcasted Teletón, but there have been issues about money and who could show the event.
In 2012, the channel got in trouble for an interview that many people thought was unfair. This caused a lot of discussion after the full interview was later shown.
Also in 2012, the channel’s website was hacked during a disagreement about things said on a reality show.
In 2019, some companies decided not to advertise on the channel because of how it covered protests.
