Constanta Metropolitan Area in 2024

The Constanța metropolitan area is a group of towns and villages that work together, with the city of Constanța in the middle. It was made official in 2007. It includes the city of Constanța and towns like Năvodari, Ovidiu, Eforie, Murfatlar, and Techirghiol, plus eight smaller places. In 2021, about 415,695 people lived there. This is about 16% of the people in Constanța County.

According to Eurostat, when looking at the area in a bigger way, about 420,241 people lived there in 2015. This made it the third largest urban area in Romania. Before 1989, Constanța had more nearby places under its control, like the town of Mangalia and a few small villages and beach towns.

Even though the idea of a united area was written down, it has not been fully used. There is still no one local government or shared public transport to connect all these places.
