Adapted from Wikipedia ยท Adventurer experience

Crime Watch Daily was an American syndicated investigative news magazine television program. It started on September 14, 2015. The first host was Matt Doran, an Australian television journalist. Later, Chris Hansen, a reporter from NBC News, hosted the show.

The program was made by Telepictures and shared by Warner Bros. Television Distribution. It showed many types of stories, including true crime tales and videos from police and security cameras.

Crime Watch Daily stopped new shows on June 8, 2018. But its website and social media kept going, now called True Crime Daily, and later True Crime News. Old episodes of the show started again in February 2019 on Ion Mystery.

Format

The program told stories about crimes that were happening or had happened. It also talked about people who went missing and cases that were not solved. The show also had reports on secret investigations from all over the United States and the world. Sometimes it talked about court cases, too.

Each episode had special parts:

  • Crime Watch Local โ€“ a daily part about a crime or mystery from one of the program's stations, with an interview from a reporter.
  • Daily Watch List โ€“ a part in most episodes that talked about important crime news from the United States.
  • Bad Seed of the Day โ€“ a weekly part about a person and something bad they did.
  • Crime Watch Daily Heat Map โ€“ a part showing unusual crime stories from around the U.S., grouped by a theme.
  • Wild About Trial โ€“ a weekly part with updates on court cases that were happening.
  • CrimeTube โ€“ a daily part at the end with videos of police and law enforcement activities from public cameras and recordings.

The showโ€™s style was inspired by an earlier program called Celebrity Justice, but it focused more on real crime stories than celebrity legal issues.

Production and distribution

Crime Watch Daily started in September 2015. It was first hosted by Australian journalist Matt Doran. Later, NBC News reporter Chris Hansen became the host. The show told true crime stories. It worked with many TV stations in the United States to share news reports.

The program began with support from Tribune Broadcasting. This helped it reach many viewers. More stations joined over time. The show covered almost the whole country. The Federal Communications Commission allowed it to count as a news program. The show ended in June 2018 after three seasons.

Second life as web-only True Crime Daily

On September 20, 2018, the show returned online under a new name, True Crime Daily. It kept sharing news about real crimes, but only on the internet. The website used fewer resources and worked with its old stations to share these stories online.

Revival

In July 2024, Warner Bros. and Telepictures announced they would bring back a TV show about true crime stories. The show, now called True Crime News, was hosted by newscaster Ana Garcia. She had also hosted the True Crime Daily podcast and worked as a reporter for the original Crime Watch Daily television series. The show started on September 9, 2024.

In March 2025, the show was cancelled after one season because it did not get enough viewers.
