Croatia at the 2014 Winter Olympics

Croatia joined the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, from February 7 to February 23, 2014. Many athletes from around the world came together to compete in winter sports. Croatia sent 11 athletes, the smallest team the country had ever sent to the Winter Olympics since the 1998 Winter Olympics. The games had many fun events, and Croatia’s part showed the country’s love for winter sports.

Croatia had eight athletes for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. One spot for women changed to a spot for men. The team members were announced on January 27, 2014.

Cross-country skiing

Croatia had two athletes for cross-country skiing at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. This was special because, for the first time since 2006, Croatia had athletes who could race in more than one event. Vedrana Malec was Croatia's only female skier who met the needed standards. The men's spot was chosen between Edi Dadić and Andrej Burić. The team was announced on January 24.

Snowboarding

Croatia competed in women's halfpipe snowboarding for the first time at the Olympics. They got this spot on January 24. One athlete from Croatia took part in this event.

Sports without participation by Croatia

Croatia did not join in several winter sports at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Even though they won a bronze medal in biathlon at the 2010 Winter Olympics, they could not qualify for biathlon in 2014. Jakov Fak, who won the bronze medal in 2010, competed for Slovenia instead of Croatia.

Croatia also could not take part in the bobsleigh events. This was the first time since the 1998 Winter Olympics that they did not join bobsleigh.

Josip Gluhak tried to qualify for the figure skating events but did not succeed. Croatia had not competed in figure skating since the 2006 Winter Olympics.

Croatia’s Daria Obratov almost qualified for the women’s luge event but did not make it. Croatia had never competed in luge at the Winter Olympics before.
