The cycling competitions of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro happened at four places between August 6 and August 21. These places were Fort Copacabana for road races, Pontal for time trials, the Rio Olympic Velodrome for track cycling, and centers for BMX and mountain biking.
Cycling has been a part of every Summer Olympics since the first modern games in 1896. Over time, the sport has grown to include many events for both men and women, such as mountain biking and BMX.
In 2013, there were talks about adding new events to Olympic cycling, but these changes were not made. The 2016 Olympic cycling events were the same as those in the cycling at the 2012 Olympics. This meant fans could enjoy a mix of traditional and modern cycling competitions.

Qualification
The cycling events at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro had special rules for athletes to earn their spots. These rules helped make sure cyclists from many countries could compete. The qualification process made the races fair and exciting for everyone to watch.

Road cycling

Great Britain's Jason Kenny joined a fellow cyclist, Chris Hoy, as the most successful male cyclist in Olympic history. He won six gold medals and one silver medal over three Olympic Games.
